Kamady Rudd, a newscaster for a local news station in Grand Rapids, Michigan, typically starts her day at 2:30 A.M., when she wakes up to being doing her makeup. The whole process involves foundation, eyeliner, eyeshadow, fake lashes and mascara, contouring, brows, and lipstick. Rudd told Glamour that for her job as a female newscaster, makeup is usually a requirement, not a choice. But for one week, Rudd decided to forgo makeup altogether, just to see what the results would be.

The idea was prompted by a study Rudd, 31, read on how women's appearances affect their perceived competence. She told Glamour that she expected rude comments or even "nice insults" (like being told she looked tired), but was surprised by the feedback she actually got.

Rudd was a little nervous on her first day makeup-free, and even mentioned it to the comedians she was interviewing, but she said, "They acted like they didn’t notice and it wasn’t brought up again."

She also didn't receive any email complaints, and a woman actually sent her a private message on Facebook, complimenting Rudd on her recent choice to go sans makeup.

Rudd said she feels more confident about society's views on windows after the experiment. She explained: "Either people say they didn’t notice, or say they noticed but were able to acknowledge ‘Huh, she isn’t wearing makeup’ and move on. I think that says something really good about people."
