Wearing a Certain Color Makes You More Attractive to the Opposite Sex

Can you guess what it is?? Red, obviously. Honestly, that red makes us appear more attractive wasn’t much of a surprise to me, though the science behind why is pretty interesting (imho, as always), especially cause it is different for men and women.

Professor Andrew Elliott, one of the study’s authors, explains that men wearing red appear to women as more powerful and therefore sexually desirable:

“We found that women view men in red as higher in status, more likely to make money and more likely to climb the social ladder. It triggers something deep and probably biologically engrained.”

As for why red makes women more attractive to men, the reasoning may go a bit deeper. Another part of the study details:

“Our research demonstrates a parallel in the way that human and nonhuman male primates respond to red. In doing so, our findings confirm what many women have long suspected and claimed – that men act like animals in the sexual realm. As much as men might like to think that they respond to women in a thoughtful, sophisticated manner, it appears that at least to some degree, their preferences and predilections are, in a word, primitive.”

Maybe so, but in this case, it sounds like the women’s instinctual response to the color are just as engrained and biological – related to the need to be cared and provided for – even though we live in a world now where that’s not a requirement.

Interesting, right? I told you!
