Dating app Happn is encouraging its male users to wear red lipstick on March 8 to show solidarity with sexual assault survivors and ladies in general. According to Glamour, when they open the app on that day, guys in the U.S., Canada, and France will see a pop-up explaining the Mettez Du Rouge ("put your red on") campaign, plus profile pictures of other men wearing red lipstick and statistics about sexual violence.
Happn's International Director of Communication explained why the app was hopping on board with the campaign:
The statistics about sexual assault toward women are frightening, scandalous, and outrageous, even more so when we think about the people behind those statistics. These are victims, real people, real women! Women's rights are human's rights—and should be celebrated every day, not only on International Women's Day.
Happn users can show off their red lips and support for women by changing their profile pictures, using the hashtag #MettezDuRouge when sharing their photos on social media, or using the app's "See You There" feature to tag themselves "available" to "put red on."
A great way to raise awareness AND a great way to weed out dudes who don't vocally support women? We think Happn's on to something here.
