You never really know how a first date is going to go until it's happening. Oftentimes, you've committed to spending an evening (or afternoon) with someone you barely know. And even if it is someone you already knew, you never really know someone until you're sharing drinks or a meal with them in a potentially romantic context. Not everyone is at their best on a first date—and many people are, unfortunately, at their worst.

On our first date, the woman answered her cell phone and then proceeded to talk for what seemed like an endless amount of time. She was obviously talking to a friend, describing how the date was going and other various minutiae of her life ("OMG I got so drunk last night"). After the 15 minute mark of non-stop yabbering, I just quietly slipped away without saying a word, got in my car and left her stranded.
