Married life is all about compromise. When you decide to spend your life with someone, there are usually a few things you have to give up, right? One-night stands are typically off the table, so is having your own apartment, but do you really have to choose between your wife and your friends?

Reddit user u/12345infinity currently finds himself in this situation. For his birthday he plans to have a birthday dinner with his wife and a separate party with his friends, which the old ball and chain is not invited to. (Ouch!)

Is this guy a jerk for wanting to have his birthday cake and eat it too? He's turned to the internet for answers.

WIBTA (Would I Be The As*hole) if I don’t invite my wife to my birthday party?

He writes:
