You’ve seen it before: a happy bride-to-be beaming from ear to ear in yet another clichéd "Save the Date" photo. But what if there was more to that smile?
My name is Adam Mamawala and I’m a stand-up comedian in New York City. A lot of people think that in order to be a successful comic you have to stay single. I beg to differ, although they might be right considering that none of you know who the heck I am. In my experience though, you just have to find someone with an incredible amount of patience and a great sense of humor. You also have to find someone who won’t leave you if you tell an embarrassing story about them onstage. Allow me to explain.
My wife Ali and I got engaged in March of 2015 and scheduled our engagement shoot for that coming October. We had just moved into a new apartment in Brooklyn the previous month, and Ali’s commute into the city had gotten about 15 minutes longer. She underestimated that and while she was on her way to work on the subway she realized that she was on the verge of an emergency (yes, that kind of emergency). She barely made it off the train and started running for her office.
