Sure, getting proposed to during a game of flip cup isn't everyone's idea of romance. Some of us have always dreamed of something more conventional, like a dancing flash mob in a heavily-populated urban area (A GIRL CAN DREAM, OK?).
But for Florida State University grads Bryan Cross and Chelsea Maloney, both college football fans, a beer-drenched proposal involving red solo cups fit in perfectly with their "tailgate love story." There really is a pot for every lid!
Back in November, the couple, who now live in Tampa, were visiting Tallahassee for the Florida State University vs. Florida State rivalry game.
At the tailgate party, their friends challenged Bryan and Chelsea to battle each other in the drinking game "flip cup." And it gets even MORE romantic, if you can imagine. Because after flipping the last cup, Chelsea saw this:
She then broke down in tears (because she was happy, not because her boyfriend proposed during flip cup). Who knew a game popular at frat parties that often results in someone vomiting in a bathtub could be so romantic??
Video of the proposal was shared by How We Asked last week and has since hugely viral. You can watch it here:
She said yes, btw. "I couldn’t control my tears of joy knowing that the man I loved most in the world wanted me to spend the rest of my life with him and that our dearest family and friends were there to be a part of this special moment," Chelsea told How We Asked. "I obviously said yes and our family showered us with champagne, chocolates with our pictures on it, and a beautiful photo of us in a frame for everyone to sign congratulating us."
Chelsea isn't the only one emotional over the proposal. The video has wracked up millions of views and over 36,000 shares since it was posted last Thursday. And now everyone wants their own flip cup proposal.
It turns out, there's more to this proposal than a mutual love of flip cup. Here's the back story: Chelsea and Bryan first met in 2010 at an FSU tailgate party where they played flip cup against each other, the couple told How We Asked.
Then they forgot each others' names, which probably had nothing to do with all that beer. "Funny thing is that neither of us remembered each other’s name so in his phone he saved my number as 'tailgate girl' and I saved his as ‘flip cup kid’," Chelsea told HowHeAsked. "The next time a tailgate rolled around I got a text from ‘flip cup kid’ saying, ‘Hey, tailgate girl, come tailgate today.’ That began our tailgate love story."
Chelsea and Bryan's wedding is scheduled for April 2018 and scheduling will include a bridesmaids versus groomsmen flip cup game, of course, according to How We Asked. We applaud them for their commitment to their brand, and each other, and can't wait to meet their future kids, Flip and Solo Cup Cross-Maloney.
