An Australian clothing store called Birdsnest is enlisting the power of the internet to help their 93-year-old customer Sylvia pick out her perfect wedding dress. Sylvia, who is set to wed her 88-year-old fiancé Frank in July, has narrowed it down to four options:
But the internet didn't just love the dress options— they also fell head-over-heels for Sylvia after reading her heartbreaking love story posted on the Birdsnest Facebook page:
Sylvia, 93, visited our store with her bridesmaids in tow to help choose a dress for her July wedding to Frank, 88. They live together in a retirement village.
Frank and Sylvia have known each other for more than 20 years, and Frank has 'many times' asked Sylvia to marry him. Sylvia has always refused, thinking that to take a new surname would be disrespectful to her deceased husband.
A year ago Sylvia took ill and moved to Canberra to be near her family, and Frank thought all hope was lost. When Sylvia recovered, she found Frank, who was living in Adelaide, and convinced him to move to Canberra to be with her.
Frank arrived a couple of months ago and again asked Sylvia to marry him. Sylvia had learned that you can keep your own surname when you marry, and so said yes.
Thousands commenters not only weighed in with opinions on the dresses, but with warm wishes for the couple. Looks like Frank isn't the only one who fell in love with Sylvia.
At time of publication, the post had over 5,000 comments and nearly 200 shares.
Someone who works in the wine industry even offered to send the newlyweds a gift for their big day.
As of now, the Birdnest Facebook still has not updated Sylvia's new-found fan base with her decision, but that's understandable. It is hard to take 5,000+ opinions into account when picking out such an important garment. Still, the commenters seem to agree, no matter which dress Sylvia goes with, she will look lovely. That Frank is one lucky guy.
This just goes to show that it's never too late to fall in love...or go viral.
