This is how a White House embraces new media. New, awkward, hilariously contentious media.
In a clear attempt to top Michelle's frequent Fallon walk-ons, Barack Obama continued his viral campaign to promote Healthcare.gov with an appearance on the least welcoming talk show on the Internet, Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis.
To call it historic is an understatement. Questions like "What's it like to be the last black president?" and "What should we do about North Ikea?" precede Zach sighing in boredom during the President's pitch to get young people to enroll at Healthcare.gov. The highlight might come with Obama's response to Zach asking if he wishes he could run for a third term.
At first glance, it's a surprise that the President would submit to this kind of interrogation. But it's become clear in recent episodes that Between Two Ferns is where viewers go to get what they want most from their public figures. This was the show where we got to see Justin Bieber get violently spanked on camera, so naturally, it's where we'd go to finally see the President of the United States become repulsed by a comedian's festering spider bites.
