It was supposed to be a Skim Vanilla Latte but sure, the art's nice. (via Facebook)

Most Starbucks baristas can't even spell your name right, much less create works of art on the side of your coffee cup. Frenchman Gabriel Nkweti Lafitte makes coffee cup art so awesome it's on display (in the Starbucks opposite the British Museum in London).

Lafitte makes his intricate cup art at home for specially selected customers who "exhibit some small kindness" when they visit the cafe. Some of the designs have taken as much as 40 hours to complete, so it's a good thing he doesn't make people wait while they're trying to get their morning coffee. People's patience for whimsy fades very quickly indeed before they've had their caffeine.

Lafitte hopes his cups will eventually be made into more permanent ceramic versions, but I'm sure Starbucks would never try to turn something romantic and ephemeral into a mass-produced moneymaker.

You can see more of Gabriel's designs on Facebook.
