"I'm not going to let this disaster stop me from doing what I love: getting Facebook likes."

We all know that Hurricane Sandy was much worse than we expected. It was so bad that we've overcome our election anger to grudgingly "come together as a nation." We've texted 90999 to the Red Cross and helped our neighbors. We've tweeted actually useful emergency information instead of mildly-funny jokes. But even though we'll still be helping each other for days to come, we can't lose sight of who we really are as a people: needy, attention-hungry children who never miss an opportunity to take a picture of themselves that will gain them online fame. So thank you, sideways-tree-guy, for reminding us what it means to be American.
