Constantly being the literal and metaphorical "bigger person," practicing the art of extreme patience, and swallowing your pride when unruly students try to troll and neg you is an extreme sport. Teachers tolerate a slew of shenanigans that extend far beyond the curriculum. Still, a good teacher is a person who shapes their students' personalities, perspective, capacity for empathy, and future careers. We might not have always like her, but we'll always remember the high school teacher her picked up the desks of students napping and parked them in the courtyard to bask in the sun during 8 AM English class.
Even the best teachers among us sometimes lose their ability to remain calm while a student lies to their face about how their term paper was shredded by their horse. Of course, teachers should never hurt their students in their meltdowns, but a funny break in character is definitely a memorable tale from academia.
