While passengers are blissfully napping with their faces smashed against the questionably clean windows, the crew of a plane is often doing some intense and sneaky problem-solving.

Despite many entitled and rude plane passengers treating airline employees as if they're nothing but glorified pretzel delivery machines, flight attendants and pilots go to extreme efforts to keep people safe. Aside from smiling and nodding while 32B unloads all the problems they've ever had with the airline in their ear, flight attendants and pilots also do a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure the passengers don't panic.

Keeping secrets from passengers to avoid unnecessary stress while hundreds of people are watching romantic comedies while suspended thousands of feet in the air in a metal tube can be a delicate and challenging game. So, when a Reddit user asked, "Flight attendants and pilots, what are some things that happen mid-flight that only the crew are aware of?" people who work on planes were ready to reveal secrets from the sky.
