Everybody's brain respond drastically different in a moment of emergency.
Some of us freeze or lay down and cry, while others have a flight or fight response that causes them to bolt away from the situation or employ muscle memory to put out the emergency. While some calmly activate their practiced knowledge of emergencies, others might respond in ways that are comically illogical and make the situation worse.
So long as everyone ends up safe in the end, it can be funny and cathartic to look back on our brain's cartoonishly unhelpful reactions to emergencies.
In a popular Reddit thread, people shared the dumbest idea they had in the middle of a stressful situation, and it'll hopefully make you feel less alone.
Forgot I had a pizza box in the oven and started to preheat, not my best moment. Ran down after smelling smoke to see the box on fire. Instead of using the fire extinguisher right next to the oven, I grabbed the box...and instead of throwing it immediately in the sink behind me, I ran outside with it...
My hands were pretty much cooked 1/4 the way through for a few weeks.
