<p>Birthdays come once a year and can mark a very special time of reflection, but that doesn&#39;t mean strangers are obligated to care. There <em>are</em> restaurants that will sing to you, coffee shops that will give you a treat, and countless rewards programs with birthday hookups (I&#39;m looking at you Sephora), but that doesn&#39;t mean it&#39;s safe to assume your birthday grants you freebies from everyone.</p><p>For example, hitting up a local artist struggling to make ends meet for a &quot;birthday deal&quot; is supremely tacky and very unlikely to go your way.
