Everyone from gym owners to brands like Reebok is cutting ties with the CrossFit brand after its CEO tweeted a joke involving COVID-19 and George Floyd, the man whose death at the hands of police sparked protests in all 50 states and across the world.
As Black Lives Matter protests continued, CrossFit CEO George Glassman decided to weigh in. Under a tweet calling racism a public health issue, he tweeted, "It's FLOYD-19."
People in the CrossFit community quickly began to express confusion and displeasure with Glassman's statements. Because CrossFit is a licensed brand, people who own or pay membership at CrossFit gyms are especially angry.
