Setting boundaries with family can be extra hard because of all the cultural pressure to support each other no matter what, and take care of your parents in old age. While it's normal to extend extra grace to family, particularly when they're in times of need, setting strong boundaries is still crucial for maintaining a healthy life.

Ideally, if you tell someone they're crossing a line, they'll empathize with your request and reverse course. But that's not always how it goes down, and there are times when you have to pull a plug on interacting with a family member until they see where you're coming from.

In a recent post on the Am I The A*shole subreddit, a man asked if he was wrong for kicking his mom out of the house after she kept criticizing his wife about her singing.

AITA for kicking my mom out after she kept saying my wife’s singing was inappropriate?

OP kicked off the post by sharing that his wife is an amazing singer, and loves singing to their daughter.

My wife has an amazing singer, and I love to say that she loves to flaunt it (if I could sing like her - I swear I would never shut up.) She often sings when she’s doing the dishes, she sings when she’s cleaning the house, sings in the shower, can spontaneously bust into song when it’s silent. It’s never bothered me, I find it quite cute. My wife sang to our daughter when she was still in the womb and still sings to her now.
