The author of the "Harry Potter" book series is being called transphobic after she wrote a series of tweets taking issue with the idea that not only women menstruate. This comes about six months after Rowling came under fire for espousing similar anti-trans sentiments.
On Saturday, June 6, J.K. Rowling tweeted about an article she'd seen with the headline, "Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate."
She added her own commentary, writing:
'People who menstruate.' I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?
Her tweet implied that the phrase "people who menstruate" should have been changed to to "women." But many argue that people of all gender identities might menstruate, and that gender and menstruation don't always go hand in hand.
