Most people want to help their family and friends whenever they're going through a rough patch, but it's also incredibly important for everyone's sake to set some boundaries.

Offering up your home to family, or lending money to a friend is a kind and generous way to show the people you love that you care and are always there for them. However, it's also always a smart idea to protect yourself and know when it's perfectly reasonable to say no. Setting a time limit on how long someone can stay with you without contributing to rent or groceries can help alleviate some of the stress of people overstaying their welcome or taking advantage of your favor. After all, it's your home and you should be allowed to live in it without someone else's child coloring all over your walls, letting your exotic pets out of their cages, and vomiting all over your furniture...

So, when a concerned brother and uncle decided to consult the moral compass of the internet (also known as Reddit's "Am I the As*hole") about a problem he's having with his sister taking advantage of his hospitality, people were quick to offer advice.
