In theory, receiving any gift at a baby shower should be cause for celebration. After all, your friends aren't the ones having the kid, so it's a generous move for them to spend their money on amenities that will help you raise a little one.

Sadly, not everyone thinks alike when it comes to the etiquette around gift giving, and for some people it's more of a priority that guests fulfill the registry list vs. picking something out on their own.

In a post on the forum Mamas Uncut, one woman wrote about how it frustrates her to receive baby shower gifts that aren't from the registry.

She went on to ask if she was alone in this feeling, and whether or not it was a selfish perspective.

Am I wrong for feeling that if people don’t buy off of the registry for the baby shower that I made specifically of things my baby and I will NEED and guest choose to buy other things that we didn’t ask for, we should receive receipts so we can return the items we don’t need and get what we actually need and asked for in the first place?
