In general, when you go to a restaurant for a meal, you should expect that you'll be paying for it. Paying for the service rendered is kind of the whole point of businesses.

However, when people get to a certain level of fame or notoriety, it's not entirely uncommon for them to receive more freebies from fans and establishments that want to show appreciation. There's an irony here since fame oftentimes comes with money, so the people getting the freebies need them the least.

That said, no matter how famous someone becomes, it's uncool to go around expecting comps just because people know who you are. It's extra embarrassing when people who aren't even famous try to pull out a random credit as a reason to skip the bill, but as anyone working food service knows: it happens.

In a popular post on the Tales From Your Server subreddit, a server shared a cringe-inducing story about a woman attempting to leverage her appearance on Dr. Phil as a reason to get free stuff.
