College brochures are notoriously corny. They often show pictures of happy, clean-cut students with perfect teeth of all races who seem exorbitantly happy to be sinking into student loan debt. For the most part, I've always assumed said students got paid to pose for the ads, or at least volunteered of their own volition (there's no such thing as bad publicity, right?!).
However, a recent viral tweet would suggest that not all college ads involve consent, real quotes, or even the students' real names.
When the 21-year-old Hamza Wahi was walking to class a few months he was asked if he'd mind having his picture taken for promotional purposes. They asked him a few questions about his name and major, and said a photo might appear on the website. Sounds reasonable enough, right?!
