If you have a refrigerator, it's likely it's decorated with at least one family Christmas card that shows a pristinely groomed family wearing monochrome outfits and perfectly flossed smiles. While it makes total sense for people to want to gussy up the family for their annual Christmas cards, we all know that's not indicative of what actual family life is like, particularly if small children are in the mix. After finding it was difficult to get their children to sit still enough for a Christmas photo, the Stanley family decided to throw out the rule book and amp up the reality of raising kids. For the past five years they've sent out cards showing the utter chaos of raising boys (and now one girl), and honestly they are much more fun to look at than your run-of-the-mill studio portrait.Jonathan Stanley told BoredPanda the tradition was borne after they had difficulty taking their first family Christmas card photo. "The very first time we tried to take a “traditional” Christmas card photo we had hilariously bad results. We were new parents with a one-year-old and everything went wrong – baby cried the whole time, it was windy, the lighting kept changing, you name it. If 2 of us looked okay, the third one blinked. We laughed so hard at how bad the photos were that we decided just to send them out as is and our family loved it. From there the tradition was born – instead of trying to send perfect cards, we would send something that represented the chaos of parenting.” In 2014, they gave friends and family the gift of a few simultaneous scenes in one brilliantly photoshopped image. RedditIn 2015 we see a near fatal moment where a baby almost sealed their own fate, and of course, parents are scurrying out the doorway. RedditThe card for 2016 truly went above and beyond in its picture of chaos - as we see the children hanging a sign imploring Santa to give them gifts. RedditSomehow, 2017 topped the shenanigans of 2016 by showing the kids taking off in a car, en route to the North Pole (of course). Reddit2018 did not disappoint, as we see the two boys lifting their baby sister up like a fish on a fishing pole. As always, the parents are dashing to save the day. RedditNow that they have a new baby girl, I have a feeling the shenanigans are going to continue to escalate in increasingly creative ways which will be fascinating to see.
