There's something shady about suggesting that Ivanka Trump, Donald's eldest daughter, would be the president's "surrogate first lady."

Donald Trump has engaged in some over-the-top proud father comments, like his much mocked "if she weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her" one. So when you take into account that the first lady is the position reserved for the president's wife, it's kind of suggestive when you say that role will be filled by his daughter.

And yet, despite the fact that it's got all sorts of odd implications, people keep doing it! Dang it, internet! Be respectful! They keep saying that with Melania Trump living in NYC for most of the week, Ivanka Trump will essentially be Trump's first lady.

In an ABC News' 20/20 interview, Ivanka Trump had to address these persistent rumors that she might "fill in for incoming first lady Melania Trump." She called the speculation "an inappropriate observation."

"There is one first lady, and she'll do remarkable things," said Ivanka Trump of her stepmother.

Still, Ivanka did grant that she will "be there to support him and to support those causes I've cared about my whole professional career." Also worth noting are reports that Ivanka met with Michelle Obama for over an hour at some point after the election, a very future first lady thing to do.

The full interview will air on Thursday, January 19 at 10 p.m. Eastern. While you wait for it to drop, here's an interview with Donald and Ivanka that gets weird.
