In the fourth season of HBO's Veep, Selina Meyer runs for president on the slogan "continuity with change." Now, Australia's Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull has adopted a slogan mightily similar to the show's 2015 one, The Guardian reported. "The bottom line is there is continuity and there is change," Turnbull said in an interview when discussing his work versus that of former prime minister Tony Abbott, who left office in 2015.
Turnbull's ministers and he have apparently been pushing the idea of "continuity and change" quite often, though they may want to pick some new buzzwords after being lampooned by Veep cast and crew.
Simon Blackwell, a writer and executive producer of the show, told The Guardian, "We needed [the slogan] to be hollow and oxymoronic, to say absolutely nothing but seem to have depth and meaning." The irony is rife.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus also tweeted about the slogan.
Looks like Veep is doing too good of a job at capturing the spirit of political jargon.
Only days before President Selina tweeted at him, Turnbull was also mocked for using a line that Frank Underwood could've uttered on House of Cards.
The show's official Twitter responded.
Maybe Turnbull should stop watching so much American TV and start focusing on presiding over a government.
