Conservative commentator S.E. Cupp welled up while talking to her party about gay rights.
S.E. Cupp is definitely a Republican. I mean, her Twitter background is a picture of her shooting a rifle wearing pearl earrings. She is also a supporter of gay rights. Yes, those two ideals are able to coexist in the same human! And now that gay marriage is officially legal nationwide, Cupp is requesting her fellow Republicans to be accepting instead of putting up a fight.
Cupp was on CNN after the Supreme Court reached its decision to uphold the right to same-sex marriage. She teared up while looking at the crowds of people celebrating the historic moment, saying:
"I challenge members of my party to look at the faces on the right hand of your screen and ask yourselves if they deserve the same kind of dignity that the rest of us get to enjoy."
I'm tearing up listening to her say those words! We are a nation of people who all just want the same rights. I'm no history buff, but I think that's something our founders wanted, too. Cupp further challenged her fellow conservatives with this final message:
"My party, which I deeply, deeply love... has to reconcile with the fact that we are going to become relics if we don't get to where these people are. They are patriots and they're not asking for a lot."
This is where you can insert an applause/crying break for a length of time you find reasonable.
