Before you badmouth Kickstarter, take a good hard look at this project to inspire students by building and installing crappy papier machet statues of Tom Hanks in Oakland public schools. Until now, we'll admit, we thought Kickstarter was just about hipsters begging for money to launch their public pillow fort projects. But now we know you can use it to mess with kids, and that's something we're willing to put our money behind (not really, we don't have any money). While this seems to clearly be a prank, they've already received over $1,600 in pledges. So, as long as they make the statues and ask Oakland public schools to install them, you can feel like your money went toward a good cause: creating the ultimate illustration of Kickstarter silliness.
