This is how he would want us to remember him.

Star Trek fans the world over are mourning the death of Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original series and films. The 83-year-old actor passed away this morning at his home in Los Angeles. Although his fame came from his part in Star Trek, Nimoy was an artist with diverse interests, who dabbled throughout his life in poetry, photography, and music.

That last interest, however, got him into trouble at least once. The clip above is from 1967, when Nimoy appeared on a variety show called Malibu U. The song was actually released by Nimoy on his 1968 album Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy. One thing that's still unclear is why he decided to record a song about The Hobbit. Maybe he just loved ultra-profitable fantasy franchises as much as science fiction ones, and he knew The Lord of the Rings would get there in 35 years or so.
