Working hard, or working while hard? (stock photo)

If you work for the federal government, start filling your hard drive up with porn, because there is almost nothing you can do to get fired.

A recent CBS report has shown that employee unions and the civil servant protection system have created a very serious appeals process for fired federal employees. So serious, that there is almost nothing a federal employee can do to get fired. Per CBS:

"At the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), red tape is preventing the removal of a top level employee accused of viewing porn two to six hours a day while at work, since 2010. Even though investigators found 7,000 pornographic files on his computer and even caught him watching porn, he remains on the payroll."

The appeals were intended to protect employees from politically-motivated firings, but now any federal employee can spend up to two years raking in their full salary while filing for appeals, no matter how obvious it is that they should be fired.

So if you work for the federal government, you can get away with watching a whole bunch of porn at work, or you can get away with monitoring a guy who watches whole bunch of porn at work. It's really a great deal, unless you are the American taxpayer who is providing the salaries for both the porn consumer and his watchdog.

As members of the private sector, we should be outraged at the feds-looking-at-privates sector. If I want to pay someone to watch porn, that should be my choice, not my obligation.
