As humans evolve, so does our understanding of what constitutes "good" parenting. Of course, it's impossible to be a perfect parent. But there are ways to try and minimize emotional and psychological damage later on in a kid's life. And just because a parenting technique is commonly practiced doesn't mean it's not potentially harmful to kids.
