Sexism is a problem in the skate park community, because skating is often seen as something just for dudes. As Avril sang,

A little girl in Cambridge, Ontario was interested in skateboarding for a long time, and when her mom took her to the local skate ramp, she felt intimidated and nervous around all the swearing skater dudes. When one of those dudes generously welcomed her to the park and offered to teach her some boarding tricks, both she and her mom were thrilled. The mom, Jeanean Thomas, wrote an open letter, published in The Hamilton Spectatorand like so many opens letters, it's gone viral:
