Leave it to Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell to take the upbeat task of announcing the winner of "Best Animated Film" and making it hilariously dark. The two comedians with matching haircuts took to the stage at Sunday's Golden Globes to present the award but paused to discuss the first animated films they saw as kids. Then things took a macabre turn.
"It was kind of a life-changing experience. And as we were leaving the theater, there standing in the lobby was my mom. And that was the moment she told me dad she wanted a divorce. I never saw my father again after that day. Fantasia day," recalled a straight-faced Carell.
Carell and Wiig tried to disguise their laughter as sobs.
Wiig responded that the first animated film she ever saw was Bambi, on the same day that her family put down her three dogs. "My grandpa thought it would be fun to go to the movie and take our minds off of it. But you know, Bambi’s mom—and also that was the last day I saw my grandpa. He disappeared, and I didn’t speak for two years."
The bit definitely stole the show. The two were so funny that people are already campaigning for them to co-host The Golden Globes next year. Who wouldn't want to see a whole night of Wiig and Carell riffing off each other?
