This guy climbed the Eiffel Tower without a harness and recorded it on his GoPro in order to provide all of us with a good month's worth of nightmare fodder. His name is James Kingston, and he's a self-described "adventurer" who climbs a bunch of crazy stuff—including cranes in Dubai, the Wembley Arch, and chimneys in Germany. He did the tower climb last year with his photographer friend Esty, and just posted the video to YouTube.
According to James, the plan was to get tickets to the second platform and then start climbing out from one of the stairways. The tower was too busy for this plan to be successfully executed, though, so they just started scaling it from the ground. They started at 1 a.m. and were spotted by security after reaching the top platform. They found some holes in the framework to hide in for a while, and once security cleared out, walked around the top of the tower during sunrise.
Once tourists started to visit around 9 a.m, they climbed down and met with the police. They were held for six hours and let go without charges. They just had to swear that they wouldn't climb the tower again in the next three years.
Please don't, guys. For the sake of our blood pressure.
