Recently released footage from 1939 shows approximately 20,000 American Nazis staging a "Pro-America" rally in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The rally, organized by Fritz Kuhn, leader of the infamous German-American Nazis group known as the Bund, ignited a mass protest where over 100,000 angry New Yorkers flooded the streets.
Filmmaker Marshall Curry and the documentary project Field of Vision released the chilling forgotten footage on Vimeo last week:
Field of Vision - A Night at the Garden from Field of Vision on Vimeo.
The video depicts thousands people giving the Nazi salute to the American flag and portrait of George Washington. Eventually, Fritz Kuhn takes the podium, and makes a speech about "American patriots" with "American ideals." He also attacks the press for how he and his followers are represented. Hm.
